Q: How Can I Improve Chevy Silverado 2500 W/Vortec 6000 Fuel Mileage?
We own several Chevy Silverado 2500 with Vortec 6000 gasoline engines. Model years range from 2002 to 2005. We used to get 15 to 17 MPG. Now we get 10 MPG. Any tips on how to improve fuel mileage and get it back into the mid-teens? While it might be nice to extend the fuel mileage beyond the original, I am simply trying to get it back to where it was when the vehicles were new. We routinely use fuel injector cleaner. Sometimes this improves the mileage but the results usually only last for a few weeks. The results may be deceiving because we often use the cleaner right before a long trip. These vehicles are usually driven an average of 30 miles per day. Normally these are highway miles with some city driving. Typically 2/3 highway, 1/3 city. I believe that the intake filter has been changed but I will check it/them. Never thought of the exhaust issue. Sometimes these trucks are driven off road (construction) and it is possible that one or more of the guys hit something. One of the vehicles (2005 Silverado 2500HD 3/4 TON) has a ladder rack on it. That one never gets good mileage. Usually 10 to 12 MPG. I suspect that the wind resistance of the ladder rack causes the poor mileage.

A: one of the best ways that i found to improve gas millage is a cold air intake. when gas goes into the combustion chamber not all of it gets burned up if you force colder air in as well the plugs fire and burn more of the gas that's already in the chamber witch in turn improves your gas millage not by a hole lot but it does help. other things to check would be your plugs and wires and tire pressure

Q: What is a fair cost to replace a water pump on an 02 Chevy Silverado?
I have a 2002 Chevy Silverado that needs a water pump and I am wondering what do you'll think would be a fair cost for such a job. Thank You!

A: depends on what shop you go to labor according to motor alldata is 2 hours- they may charge for a pressure test or something- the price for the part is about 130 for an oreiley new part- again this depends on the part store you buy it from the cheapest route to do this if your going to do this at a shop is to buy the parts and coolant you need dexcool by the way dont forget the gaskets if they dont come with the part- and take it to a shop and tell them you want them to put the water pump in all you pay to them is the labor- a lot cheaper.

Q: We replaced the fuel pump in our 99 chevy silverado & it still doesnt want to start, what could be our problem?
The fuel pump is the first thing that went out so we replaced it & the truck still wont start. The truck is a 99 chevy silverado z71. The fuel pump is not making a whining sound or anything & the gas gauge isnt reading. Please any ideas would help for we havent had a running vehicle for a week & I have major health issues & we NEED to get it running....

A: Locate the fuse box. On that model it will be under the hood on the driver side and will be near the master cylinder and mounted against the fender. "Electrical Center" is stamped on the top cover. Remover the cover and you should see a fuse layout that looks something like this: http://econtent.autozone.com:24991/znetrgs/repair_guide_content/en_us/images//0900c152/80/08/f3/bd//large/0900c1528008f3bd.gif Check the "ECM-B" fuse. The ECM-B fuse powers the vehicle control module (VCM) and the oil pressure switch and also the fuel pump through the fuel pump relay. I suspect the fuse is blown and if it is then I suspect that the most likely culprit is the oil pressure switch since it is the oil pressure switch which backs up the fuel pump relay and powers the fuel pump after the start cycle once the engine has obtained oil pressure. Even if the fuel pump relay fails the oil pressure switch should power up the fuel pump once the oil pressure switch obtains about 5 PSI after about 15 seconds of cranking the starter. That does not seem to be happening for you and so I suspect that the oil pressure switch is not operating properly. If the ECM-B fuse is not blown then try replacing the fuel pump relay switch. If the ECM-B fuse is blown then you have a short to ground in either the fuel pump circuit, the oil pressure switch circuit, or the ECM circuit. If the ECM-B fuse is blown then I think a good way to discover which circuit is blowing the fuse is to remove the fuel pump relay and unplug the oil pressure switch and then replace the blown ECM-B fuse. Then crank the motor for a few seconds and if the fuse holds you can eliminate the ECM circuit as the cause. Next then plug in fuel pump relay and then crank the motor. If the fuel pump relay is working then the motor will start if the ECM-B fuse holds and if it does hold then you can eliminate that circuit as the cause. The only other possible culprit remaining then is the oil pressure switch circuit and probably the oil pressure switch itself is shorted internally.

Q: What does the LS on my chevy silverado truck stand for?
Its a chevy silverado classic 4 door truck 1500 v8 and it has LS on the side and i have been wondering what it ment..

A: LS refers to the trim level. LS is the entry level on the Silverado. It's one step above the work truck. Typically indicitive of the power options...It will also depend on the year though because trim levels change or I should say what comes on the trim level changes.

Q: how difficult is it to change beds on a chevy 1991 silverado?
i have a 1991 chevy silverado step side and want a straight bed on it, would a straight bed fit onto it. if i just swap them? how do i do this?

A: Piece of cake. Remove 8 bolts from under bed through rails. Unplug 4 connectors at back rail for tail lights. Take out 2 screws and one plastic push plug inside gas filler door. Hook up some chains from the four hooks inside the bed ( one in each corner) to an engine puller and lift it off. Or have some friends help you. Be careful as there will be one more screw you have to remove after you get the bed up a little. It a grounding strap close to drivers door. Good Luck. Oh if your having any trouble with your fuel gauge or fuel pump, now would be a good time to replace it.

Q: I have an 05 Chevy Silverado with 42000 miles on it, the tires are shot. The truck is used for pulling a boat?
I have an 05 Chevy Silverado with 42000 miles on it, the tires are shot. The truck is used for pulling a boat on weekends and a trailer to haul wood in the winter. The tires have been rotated at 20K because the front tires were wearing quicker then the rear tires. I had it in for inspection and the front tires are almost to the threads on the inside only in the front any guess as to what may be causing it? I bought the truck new, the tires are not wearing even only on the insides, I never even noticed it until I took it in for inspecton. However I have felt something in the steering when I go around turns especially.

A: Maybe front end out of alignment That will be a good place to start, hope this helps.

Q: How much is a new ECM for a 1988 Chevy Silverado?
I have an 88 chevy silverado, and I think the ECM could be bad. The cruise control doesn't work, and I had a mechanic look at it and he did everything he could, but he said he could try putting a different ECM in it from his truck(also an 88 silverado) and see if that would work. If it is bad, it would explain a few other problems with the truck also. I was just wondering how much a brand new one would cost for my truck. Thank you!!

A: go to the junk yard and rip one out, bout 20-30 bucks at the right people

Q: Advice needed for 1998 Chevy Silverado exhaust?
I have a 1998 Chevy Silverado with the 350 V8 in it. It already has a true duel exhaust system on it, though its not loud really at all unless your standing behind the tips. I was wondering if it would be more of a benefit to buy two new mufflers from Flowmaster or Magnaflow and if so which ones. Or if it would make much of a difference if I just put diffrent tips on the existing pipes.

A: I own a shop, and a couple of 350 (built) engines. There is a trade off between flow, and noise. The louder it is, the better it will flow. The Flowmaster Series makes several different mufflers that work really well, and one must determine how loud you want it to be. Also; If you have cat converters, then you may want to look into replacing them with some free flowing ones. Personally I think the 50 series would be a better flowing muffler for a truck than the 40 series. They also make an outlaw series that is made for race only applications. The Magnaflow Performance series are good mufflers, but if you intend to weld them in, then they are made of stainless steel, and won't weld to regular steel. Hooker makes a very good muffler now, and they have very good sound. Unless you are talking about a muffler that is a tip, then you are only going for looks rather than any difference in the flow. DynoMax has good line of mufflers. They sound pretty good, but don't flow as well as I like, and seem to make more back pressure than one might desire. Check out this: www.jegs.com and search for mufflers. This should help you make up your mind as to which ones to go with. Glad to help out, Good Luck!!!
