Q: Can you get a lift for a 2008 Chevy Silverado without a lift kit? i.e. by adjusting something? How much $?
I have the 20 inch rim, 4x4, extended cab. Anybody have details? How high can it be? How much does it cost? Can it be done by others besides the dealer? Other? I guess its the new body style. I don't want to put a kit because wattanty issues...

A: Is it the old body style or new > The old style you can Adjust the torsion bars up. Will need alignment done after. And will ride rough. The new style you can get a kit for the front struts.

Q: what are some cheap easy ways to give my 2008 chevy silverado more power and better fuel effiency?

A: I own a shop, and in order to answer this question one must first look at what causes a vehicle to get poor fuel economy. A truck is not very aerodynamic, so lowering the vehicle, adding an air dam to keep air from flowing under the vehicle, and adding a cover to the bed will all keep the air flowing around the vehicle, and not holding it back. Tire pressure; Any tire that is low will take more resistance to roll, but the patch that touches the road is what counts. Running more air pressure will put less patch to the road, thus rolling more easily, but at the risk of slipping if its too much pressure. Lighten the load; by removing everything from the vehicle that doesn't have to be in it, will make a difference. Tuning the engine; This will keep it running its best, and get the best mpg. Air filter; A larger air filter will allow the air to flow better, and keeping it changed is very important. A cold air induction system will help due to an engine makes more power from a cold charge of air rather than the heated air from under the hood. Keeping the injectors clean helps by not allowing them to leak. They will stick when they get dirty, and this means they don't close off good, thus allowing some fuel to keep entering the engine even when the engine is not running. Keep the vehicle greased, and the alignment in good shape & set properly. Running the correct size wheels & tires will make a huge difference in the mpg. Finally; a good flowing exhaust system will make a big difference in power as well as mpg. How one drives can help too, so lower the speed, take off gradually, and stay out of the gas pedal. Glad to help out, Good Luck!!!

Q: I have a 2008 Chevy Silverado. Problems with the driver door?
When I close my driver door and then put the the truck in reverse or drive the "Driver door open" message appears on the dash. What can I check before I take it to the dealer?

A: Just did one 2 weeks ago because when you push the unlock button on the remote the drivers door wouldn't unlock. All wiring checked ok so I replaced the latch assembly. After I changed the latch, the radio wouldn't shut off when you opened the drivers door.Turns out,GM is replacing 2008 door latches with 2009 latches and they are wired different. So I found a bulletin to remedy the wiring problem.GM no longer has switches in the doorway for interior lights, the switch is part of the door latch so your latch is messed up because its not telling the Body Control Module that you closed the door. Don't forget to upset the manager at the dealership, because you'll probably have to tell him about the wiring bulletin.

Q: How much does my 2008 Chevy Silverado 1500 WT V8 weigh?

Q: What will it take to lift my 2008 Chevy Silverado... Please help?
OK, so i just bought a 2008 Chevy Silverado. it is 4x4 Z71. i was wanting to do a lift on it ( like a 6" suspension lift). i have NEVER had a lift on a vehicle, so i know nothing about it. How much would this cost me? is this a bad idea? what are the drawbacks of getting a lift ( besides bad gas mileage. i can handle that). Will i have to mess with the drive shafts? thank you for your help!!

A: draw back: * fuel consumption * handling is much worse * more likely to tip over * braking performance is greatly impaired due to weight transfer issues related to the higher cg * if you get a blow out - it is much harder to control * costs * front cv joint life * drive shaft u-joint life Basically it is a very bad idea unless you are going off road in places you need serious ground clearance - if not you are just a poser.

Q: 2008 Ford F150 FX2 or 2008 Chevy Silverado 1500 LT?
Right now there good deals on trucks in my area. I can get a 2008 Silverado LT (5.3L V8) for about $20k. It has better gas mileage, and better overall ratings from some reviews I've read. I would most likely have to pay for upgrades such as the bedliner, sidesteps, and rear sliding window. There is also a good deal on the Ford F150 FX2 (5.3L V8) for $20k. I liked the feel of it when I drove it, and it already comes with upgraded upholstery, bedliner, sidesteps, and rear sliding window. I would appreciate any information or input. Such as, which do you prefer, which is more reliable, etc. The vehicle I'm using right now is a 2000 Honda CR-V and I've never had any problems with it. I really value the reliability. I'm looking for that same reliability from the truck I purchase.

A: I've owned of the ford f-150 and the silverado 1500's My business used these half ton pickups on a daily basis. What i found was the Silverado's were less costly when it came to maintenance and operation. So much money difference in the operation, repair and maintenance that i removed the fords from my fleet of 7 trucks entirely. The silverado is great truck especially with that 5.3L engine. When i sold my business last year I had 3 2000 silverados in the fleet all with upwards of 253,000 miles on each. Just before i sold them I had compression tests run on all the fleet and my 2000 silverados with that 5.3L engine all tested very strong and was told that i should be able to get another 150,000 miles on them before an overhaul was needed. Getting 400,000 miles on a half ton pickup is great especially with no major repair costs. If it were me I'd do the Silverado 1/2 ton with the 5.3L engine over the ford. I have mine in the drive way right now. I love it.

Q: does 1999-2008 chevy silverado have a speed limiter?
does the Chevrolet Silverado 1999-2008 have a speed limiter on it at 98 mph? the last two i owned had one but some guy says it doesnt and i need help proving him wrong so if you can find this information any where on teh internet please help me he thinks his is at 125 mph stock... i dont know why

A: ya they all do now, i had an avalanche that had it at 98 i bought a hypertech programmer and i could then bury the speedometer at 120 and my tach would keep onrising but i talked to a friend i had at theGm dealer and he said it was limited because of the tires, they go to 98mph

Q: what is the best truck is it the seirra gmc 2008 or the chevy silverado 2008?

A: There is not really any comparison between the 2 vehicles. It is more of a preference. They are both general motors and have the same body style and features. The only difference I have found is in the cost. Depending on the demand of either GMC product or Chevy product depends on which one is more costly at the time.

Q: Anyone have the 2008 Chevy Silverado 1500 trim code list?

A: I believe you might be talking about the RPO codes, which is a list of all of the options that came with your truck. There should be a label in your glove box or in your center console with a list of 3-letter codes like L03, RP1, etc.... These are every option your truck was built with, and you can look them all up at: http://www.gm-trucks.com/home/index.php/RPO-Code-Lookup.html I'm not sure if they have 2008 codes, but they most likely should. It's a fairly new site

Q: where is the oil drain plug on my 2008 chevy silverado?

A: It's on the oil pan, either on the side of it or on the bottom of it.

Q: 2008 Chevy Silverado extended cab question....?
Ok, so my dad just got me an extended cab, short bed Z71 chevy silverado. siince it has the driver and passenger door, does it have two doors on each side when all opened or just three like older models?

A: The new body style has 4 doors. The rear open all the way to the bed now though to help make loading items in the back seat easier.

Q: 2008 chevy silverado or GMC sierra?
Is there any diffrence on these trucks?

A: Alex these trucks are very smilier in ride, handling, power and safety. The true difference is what you fell after driving both trucks.Good chance you will find the gmc built a litter better over all.The Chevy truck is great in lots of ways. But the gmc is built to a slightly higher degree.Best of luck.

Q: Can you tell if a new 2008 Chevy can use E85 by the VIN?
Can you tell if a new 2008 Chevy Silverado can use E85 fuel from the VIN? It seems the coding has changed from previous years because looking at the VIN's from flex fuel to non flex fuel do not have a Z in the 8th character. I am trying to confirm what I am having delivered next week has E85 by the VIN. None of the papers that I brought home has the info.

A: Your vehicle should have emblem on it that says flexfuel, if not then dont put E85 in vehicle, But to double check go here http://www.e85fuel.com/information/vin.php it will tell you. Good luck
