I'm buying a 6" skyjacker suspension kit and a 3" body lift for my truck, but don't know what size tire I can fit under it. Thanks for the Help!

Q: how much does it cost to repair a transmission for a chevy silverado 1500 4x4?
What happend was i drove my truck until my transmission fluid ran low. So when driven at 25-35 mph, the truck accelerates. I think I ruined the second gear to the transmission, but I'm not sure. Does anybody know what exactly went wrong? And also how much will it cost to repair my transmission????

A: I had to replace a transmision on a car once and it was $1,600. just for the rebuilt transmision. The mechanic cut me a deal and didnt charge me for the labor since he was a family friend. So it may cost a couple hundred more after adding the labor.

Q: How good is a Chevy Silverado 1500 with a 4.8 Liter Vortec?
I found a truck I really like it is just that it is a 4.8 liter Vortec and I like power so how powerful is this? Like what is the difference between this and a 5.3 Liter Vortec and the hemis?

A: What year? My 2004 5.3 is rated at 295HP I believe the 4.8 is rated at 280. Both are excellent motors. Unless you want to tow something big the 4.8 should be great.

Q: i need to know if my 04 chevy silverado 1500 comes factory with anit-theft system?
i am installing a remote starter on my truck and i dont know if it has the anti-theft system that needs the key to start it. the dealer is giving me a hard time about telling me. can someone please tell me if it does or not or how i can find out, thanks.

A: Yes that vehicle does. In order to bypass it, in the ignition harness there is a thin yellow wire and either a black or orange with the black. First, start the vehicle. Than, strip the black or orange and the black than cut the yellow wire in half...than the security light should come on Measure the resistance between the keyside of the yellow wire and the black or orange/black. Than find the correct resistor and tie it into the black or orange/black and the other cut side of the yellow wire. Than just tape the key side of the yellow wire up with the rest of the ignition harness, because you dont need it anymore. If you have anyother questions let me know. Hope I could help

Q: I need transmission help! 1995 Chevy Silverado 1500 V8 Electronic 4L60E Transmission will not shift into DRIVE
Or 1st gear. I have changed the BRAIN Box, changed fluid and filter, and changed 1 of the transmission sensors and unplugged the battery for a while... but it still will not shift into drive or 1st. Any suggestions?

A: It sounds like the forward clutch in the trans is bad. Edit: Have you checked for a broken shift cable? Just a thought.

Q: Towing with a 2002 Chevy Silverado 1500?
I am looking to purchase a 2002 Chevy Silverado 1500 5.3L V8 4x4 with a factory tow package. It's tow rating is ~7000 lbs. I will be hauling a 3000 lb. tag-a-long (bumper pull) stock trailer, one 1200 lb. horse, and maybe 500 lbs. of gear. I would like it to be able to haul two horses (1200 lbs. each) at times. At first, I thought I for sure needed a 3/4 ton, but on average I will be hauling only 1 quarter of a 3/4 ton's towing capacity, so I decided it was just too much truck at this point. Everyone I spoke to who hauls horses with a Chevy 1500 has been happy with it's performance. I will be hauling long distances on a regular basis (100-1200 miles a week) during the summer.

A: The Cevy will be fine. You will be getting poor gas mileage though. Have fun.

Q: My Chevy Silverado 1500 is having a fluctuation rpm. Its very slight but annoying, how do i fix it.?
The year is 2000 and its a v6 4.3L. It revs up a little past 1000rpm and idles at bout 750. No irregularity in temperature or oil pressure. However recently i have felt less pick up in the accelerator.(related?) Thanks

A: It could be the tps ( throttle position censer) or just a sparkplug miss firing. When was the last time you changed the plugs. It sounds like a plug firing then not. Is the check engine light on? If so having it scaned might tell you more information as to what is causing the problum.

Q: Does anyone know about the Radars already in the 1992 Chevy Silverado 1500 4x4?
They come with them but mine does not work... Does anybody know how to fix them? THANK YOU!! Radar Dectector aka FUZZ BUSTER It has one from the factory. it is on the top in the center. It is really nice Laugh all you want JUSTIN!! Thats fine with me!!! Have a GOOD DAY!!

A: I have never seen any radar detector ever installed by the factory. The dealer must of had some aftermarket company install it.Best bet if to look for a blown fuse or loose wire at the fuse panel. If you can gain acess look behind the detector for a loose wire. Best of luck with your silverado.

Q: Ways to improve gas mileage in a 2004 Chevy Silverado 1500?
I just bought a '04 Silverado and was wondering what some of the easier and cheaper ways to imporve gas mileage was other than a high-flow intake, or aftermarket exhaust, or even keeping a light foot. Just thought there might be some cheap ways to squeeze a couple more dollars out of the tank...

A: Get a perfomance intake, a low resistance exhaust and use a light foot instead of a lead foot...with that combination you will see at least a 1.5mpg difference. Check tire pressure. Use the lowest grade gas possible (it should already be regular for a silverado) There really is nothing else, Lower you tailgate when theres nothing in the bed of the truck, remove unnessicary things they add weight and cause air resistance.

Q: How do I remove the starter from an 89 Chevy Silverado 1500?
then again I have replaced batteries and checked all the cables and it just makes a clicking sound........so how do I replace the solenoid

A: Here's a generic starter replacement procedure that will help a little. But are you positive the starter's bad? With a known good battery and battery cables, if it just clicks, it's probably the solenoid contacts burned so they don't make good contact anymore. Chevrolet usually mounts the starter solenoid right on top of the starter motor (it's the smaller round cylinder that the big red battery cable connects to). Some older cars like Ford had a separate solenoid switch on the fender wall which made it easy to replace just the solenoid switch without replacing the whole starter motor. It's possible to take the solenoid switch off your starter motor once you remove it from the truck and change just the solenoid, but since the motor's 17 years old if its the original one, I would replace the whole motor and solenoid with a new remanufactured unit.
