Q: What 3 parts would be best to increase horsepower and speed in a '91 f150?
I recently got a 1991 ford f150 XLT Lariat 4x4 with 184000 miles. I'm 16 so obviously I want to make it faster. I'm looking to spend around $500 to $600 total (not including labor). If you know more than 3 go wild and put as many as you want. Also , I want to know what parts will increase acceleration.

A: HI well for the price you are Limited to there really isn't much you can do unless you start checking out swap meets or crags-list for used parts. just headers for you truck well almost run $500.oo or even just an intake upgrade about the same. Even just a cat back exhaust well run over $300.oo... With 184 K miles the motor is most likely starting to get tired and if you start adding performance to the motor its going to go south purity quick.. I'd start saving up for a while. You well need like $4,000.oo and then rebuild the motor and add your performance up grades to that. Intake, headers, cam, head work, MSD ignition. balancing the rotating assembly. good luck tim

Q: How hard is it to change the upper and lower balljoints on a 1977 Ford F150 Pickup?
My truck is a 77, 4x4, and needsball joints bad, i have the new parts i just need to know how hard is it to change them. THanx

A: It isn't hard to change them out as long as you have a ball joint seperator bar. It looks similiar to a tuning fork (in music) but a separator has sloping forks. The most important thing is to have your truck on stable jack stands for safety. If you get into a bind, auto parts stores have Chilton maintenance manuals for all vehicles. The instructions are easy to follow and the manual has many photographs of the different repair sections as well.

Q: 2001 ford f150 how do i replace the front bumper?
Front bumper is made up of two parts and the metal is fine but the plastic is broke. I bought the bottom liner and not sure how to attach it. Is it connected by bolts or something else.

Q: Why isn't the air conditioning in my Ford F150 blowing cold air?
The compressor and fan are working fine, and there's 35lbs of pressure in the coolant. The two heater hoses going into the coil behind the glovebox in the dashboard are very hot. Changing the HVAC settings inside on the dash will make either heated air or outside air come into the cab, but no refrigerated/cool air. All the mechanical parts seem to be working fine.

A: could be a few things wrong was the unit change over to r134a .also you could have a bad evp coil. or a bad txv . i would check the evp coil in the front of the truck if it is clog with bugs and stuf get a hose and spray i t out

Q: I'm still having problems with my 1990 Ford F150 ignition after changing the ignition switch?
I changed the ingnition switch and the gear shift is still stuck in park.What alse is broke and where can I find a parts break down for this?

A: who ever told you it was the ign. sw.? what is stopping it from coming out of park is the saftey interlock switch. check to see if your brake lights go on--chances are not working also because the interlock switch gets its electrical signal off the same circuit. a little trick ive used on some fords is to turn the 4 way flashers on and bingo--out of park --hope this helps--forgot-check stoplight fuse.

A: 11 years of parts and mechanical experience leads me to believe your clock spring is bad. Can be bought at NAPA for around $60.00 Part # is BK 665-3506. However, this part requires extensive mechanical ability to install not a job for weekend warriors.

Q: 86 ford f150 engine will start using starter fluid but won't stay running?
I have replaced the ecc relay now and then had low fuel pressure at the filter, low pressure at the fuel rail I replaced the fuel pump now I have great fuel pressure at the rail but it will start with starting fluid and will not stay rumming checked the tfi module at a parts store it checked good trying to find a way to check the ecc i get one thing fixed and then have another problem trying to find out if the injectors are pulsating

A: No way to check other than checking values To find out if injectors are pulsating takes a cheap test light from the auto parts store... Remove the injector connector off the injector. Put the test light clamp on the negative and the probe to the red wire.. with the key on , the light will light up Now, flip the clip to the positive battery cable... probe the other wire while someone cranks on the truck... should flash at you on and off.... if it does, you have injector pulse.. if not start hunting

Q: i have an 89 ford f150 need to know the part number for the eec relay it has an 4.9l inline 6?


A: 87 - 91 is the same body style. This is a Fuel pump relay on a 5.0 -302ci V8 The 4.9 Straight 6 is a 300ci motor, so the fuel pump should be the same. (there is only 2 cubic inches , and 1/10 of a liter differance between the 6 and 8 cylinder motors. Q: I own a 1999 Ford F150 4.6L V8, at times the gauge cluster will peg and headlights will brighten, HELP!!!!?
this happens with the headlights on and off and at intermitent times without regularity. i've been told it was the voltage regulator but the actual part it is seems to be in contention. if any more clarification is need i'd be happy to give it

A: Corroded battery connections. Remove and clean them.

Q: Why my 1994 ford F150 doesn't read any codes?
Hooked a meter up to it doesn't read anything, been having problems with it,changed parts still isn't running right.

A: If you are experiencing a no start condition that is also accompanied by the fuel pump running whenever the key is turned on, and you can't communicate with the ECM, the problem is the ECM. Those are the textbook symptoms for ECM replacement. If you are not experiencing each of these issues, then please disregard this post. You were too vague for me to do any online diagnostics other than what I've provided. Share as many details as you can. Help us help you. :)
