Q: Ford Ranger: Why is my check engine light still on after I fixed the problem?
I have a 1995 Ford Ranger with 205,000 miles and the check engine light came on with the code for “EGR Valve - Insufficient Flow”. Anyway, I replaced the EGR valve for $80.00 and the light is still on. The truck runs a hell of a lot smoother now with a little more power to boot. Why is the light still on? What else could be causing the “insufficient flow”?
A: The EGR valve is opened by a Vacuum Solenoid Switch which is opened by current from the computer. If the VSS isn't opening, it won't allow enough vacuum to open the EGR valve. You could also have a vacuum leak, but with 205,000 miles, you could have oil/ carbon build up in the intake, preventing sufficient vacuum to the EGR valve. One other possibility is that the EGR position sensor/ DPFE is sending an incorrect signal to the ECU.
Q: How to check the transmission fluid in a Ford ranger?
I have a 1987 ford ranger with a manual transmission and i cant figure out where to check it at. It doesnt have the black tube like a automatic transmission has to check or add. Any info would help!
Thanks
A: YOU MUST GO UNDER THE TRUCK MY FRIEND. THERE WILL BE A FILL HOLE AND AND A LEVEL HOLE AKA THE PINKY HOLE
Q: What is the Toyota equivalent of a Ford Ranger?
I'm looking for a light truck, similar to a Ford Ranger, Chevy S10 or a GMC Sonoma and I was just wondering the Toyota equivalent to this? Also if you know of any other light trucks I would appreciate it!
A: Tacoma. The Ranger is ok, but the Tacomas are near bullet-proof! I'm not a Toyota guy, but a Tacoma can take a lickin' and keep on tickin'.
Q: What is with the cooling fan on a 1994 Ford Ranger and how to get it off?
I have a 1994 4.0 Ford Ranger and can not get the fan off.I went and got a fan clutch tool from autozone but it is too big.It is 36mm,the bolt is smaller. What can I do to get it off?Do all 94 rangers have a different size fan bolt ?Anyone else have this problem?
A: Get a pair of vice grips and a friend, clamp the vice grips around where the fan clutch tool would go, and take off the 4 bolts holding the fan off with a wrench. Same thing happened to me on my 95 F250, and the fans are basically the same, only yours is a little smaller.
Q: How do I check the transmission fluid in my 1997 ford ranger.?
I just bought a 1997 ford ranger,with a manuel transmission.Automatic transmisions have a dipstick.
A: There is a fill plug on the side of the transmission, remove plug and stick your finger in it, it it comes out with oil on it, you are good. If dry, add oil. It's the upper plug.
Q: Clunking noise on my 86 Ford Ranger that matches my speed?
I have a 1986 Ford Ranger, and when driving at slower speeds (5-30mph) I can hear a clunking that matches my speed. I was thinking it could be my u-joint going bad, but i found another site that recommended checking for play in the joint and i did and there was none, so I'm thinking that maybe it's not the u-joint. Any ideas?
A: wheel bearing most likely if the uni joints are nice and tight in the shaft. possibly your diff going as well
Q: How do you replace the headlight bulbs on a 2000 Ford Ranger?
I have a 2000 Ford Ranger and I was wondering how to replace the headlight bulbs. I bought some sylvania silverstar ultra bulbs and I can't seem to replace them on my ranger. Don't laugh.. it is supposed to be simple but I can't figure it out. A step by step process would be helpful, if you could find step by step with galleries would be even better.
A: Go to a Food ranger dealer and get the bulbs and then go to a gas station and ask if they would replace for you. Would be cheaper for gas station to replace then dealer.
Q: How Much would it cost to replace the back window sliding glass of my 95 ford ranger?
Ok I have a 95 ford ranger, it has a rear, sliding glass window. Some one broke out the driver side piece of glass only. it not that big of a piece. Anyone have any ideas how much it would cost to replace?
A: <125
Q: What sort of gas mileage do you get with your Ford Ranger?
I have a 2007 Ford Ranger 3.0 L V6 Super Cab (the one with the extra half-door and rear fold-up seats) with Automatic Transmission.
I got the truck with 3200km / 2000 miles on it.
I've been keeping track of my gas mileage for the past 5 months.
I've calculated my average as :
7.2 km/ l , or
17 mpg.
I do a mixture of highway and city driving with mostly highway driving.
According to the Ford Website, the Ranger gets 17 mpg city / 22 mpg hwy.
I do mostly hwy driving and I'm getting the city average.
My feeling is that the Ranger is a gas guzzilng little beast.
When my lease expires in 2 years I'm going Tacoma, or, what I really want, a hybrid or natural gas truck (if one becomes available).
I'm a greenie : ).
Thanks in advance for your feedback.
Thanks for all the great answers so far guys!
Wow "oldguy"!
That's brutal mileage.
Steel is Steel though.
Shiny. :)
Yeagh "djkjb74".
I know the printed numbers are from idyllic conditions.
Still 17 is low for mostly highway driving isn't it?
Thanks for your specs "karate09".
Hey Mikey.
21 mpg. Jealous!
My Ranger is 2WD and terrible in snow.
No weight in bed usually except for my tools.
I was Siding (although Laboring mostly. sigh. construction is so easy. why keep guys doing the donkey jobs for months when they can be doing the real work in a day. that's got to change.) up until recently.
I'm always on Cruise Control and I drive like an alert old lady.
Yeagh, 4 cylinder would be the way to go, but the thing is even more gutless than the 3.0 V6.
I'm so going Tacoma after my lease is over.
Hey John F.
I'll make sure my filter is checked out my next oil change.
19 in town!
22-23 highway!
That would be great!
...it's pretty lame that I get so excited over such little numbers...
I've heard about the K&N Filter.
Thanks Francesco.
I'll give it a shot.
I just watched Live Earth yesterday online.
If any of the manufacturers read this, I would like to request trucks that are hybrids and natural gas powered.
Make a good one and you got my business.
Dave.
A: I have a 2002 ranger 3.0L, Auto, Regular cab, 2WD. I have a K&N air filter which gave me a increase to 19-23. I would advise the same to you i think you will see a clear differnce.
Q: What kind of gas mileage do you get in your Ford Ranger?
Anyone who has a Ford Ranger. What kind of gas mileage do you get? What engine/transmission combo do you have? And please list any performance upgrades i.e. exhaust, intake etc. I just purchased a 98 4 cyl 5 spd Ranger for gas mileage and would like to know how to best improve it. I have a Chevy Avalanche right now also but my everyday truck is now my ranger and the Avalanche just go out with on the weekends. My buddy has a ranger with the same combo as me an steadily sees 28-30 mpg on the highway but he has exhaust (flowmaster for a 4 cyl - go figure) and said it made a big difference. Any input?
A: Depending on how your drive you should see 25-30. It's a flying brick, you aren't going to get good mileage.
Q: what could i do to add a little horse power to my 1993 ford ranger L4 2.3 Liter FI?
I was wondering if i could do anything to my 93 ford ranger to give it a little more juice, cause it's pretty gut less. I am about to put 235's tire on it, and i was wondering if i would make it any slower by a major impact. I have 225 on the back now and 185 on the front and was wondering if it could rub on the front fender.
A: one of the best things i've seen done to a 2.3, car or truck, is to swap it out for a 2.3 turbo that's found in a thunderbird or mustang. make sure the turbo is up to snuff. i've seen a ranger at the drags with a 2.3 turbo and a 50 shot of nos run in the 11's. it shouldn't cost much to find one of these motors in the junk yard, and it wouldn't hurt to have the engine freshened and the turbo rebuilt. the 8 plug 2.3 is useless for power. also, i've taken a 4 plug 2.3 and had motor work done to it, like plain the head, and bore it out to a 2.5, using stock 2.5 ranger parts for the circle track. if you build it right, it will easily reach 200 hp with stock parts, just have to mix and match them.
Q: does anybody know how to fix a ford ranger 4x4 that wont go into four wheel drive?
i own a 2002 ford ranger 4x4 and it wont engage when i turn the switch. both of the fuses appear to be ok, but it won't go into four high or four low.
A: when you try to engage the 4whl does the 4x4 indicator flash, this indicates a problem with the system, if no lites flash then have someone try to engage the 4x4 system while you smack the motor on the transfer case with a small hammer, this motor is subject to the elements and lack of use cause it to not work a smack with a hammer will sometimes jar it loose, if the 4x4 engages now the best thing you can do for it is use it more, driving straight down a dry road engage the 4x4, it wont hurt it any and of course disengage it before you turn, thats the biggest problem with these systems is a lack of use
Q: How to get a Ford ranger front rotor off?
I have a 99 ford ranger 4x4. How do you take the front rotor off.... do you need to take the hub and bearing off first or do you just pound the rusty old one off??
A: brake assembly off - baseball bat or 2x4 and hammer
Q: Is it possible to install a remote lock system on a ford ranger with non power locks?
I have non power locks on my ford ranger and would like to install a remote lock/unlock system on the doors.
1. Is it possible and if so how much will it cost?
2. Where should I go to buy the hardware i'm going to need?
3. How hard will the installation be, could I do it myself?
A: I installed a set from VPA on a 1970 ford truck. They are universal. I ordered them from Summit www.summitracing.com.
Q: Looking for pictures of a flatbed on a Ford Ranger?
I have a 1996 Ford Ranger X-Cab and I would like to build a flatbed for it for working. I am trying to find photos on the internet, but I am not having much luck. Can anyone post some links to some photos, or have some of their own that we can talk about? Thanks.
A: Been working on them for 10+ years, and haven't seen any North American versions in flat bed version. It's more common on the ROW (rest of World) version.
Most don't flat bed a ranger as it can't handle the weight that a normal flat bed operator would use... that and it would be a hand built job pretty much in North America as most flatbeds are built for f-250 and bigger trucks
