Q: Can I take my gmc sierra to get serviced at a chevy dealership.?
I have a gmc sierra and I live close to a Chevy dealership. So I was curious about taking the gmc to the chevy dealership.
A: ...and the real answer is...
::drum roll::
You 'might' be able to take it to the Chevy dealer (for warranty work). But crossline warranty is voluntary only, and even though it is possible in emergency situations for a Chevy dealer to warranty it is frowned upon but the national dealer council. In fact, my service rep told me I could be charged back if we continued to do crossline warranty.
For customer pay service work, you can take it anywhere you want.
Q: can i switch a 03 gmc sierra stepside box for a straight box?
i have an 03 gmc sierra z71 off road with a stepside box...it has spider cracks in it and i find it useless in the bush....can i put a 6'2 straight box on it?

Q: Is a GMC Sierra or a Chevy Silverado more reliable?
I'm 17 and i have the choice to get either a GMC Sierra or a Chevy Silverado. I need it to go to school, parties, usual teenage stuff. Which one will last me longer? (They're both 2000 models with over 100,000 miles on them)
A: They're pretty much the same under the hood, some of the bells & whistles might be different. Go for looks, man - Silverados looked pretty sharp in that model year.
Q: Tips on how to beef up my small block 400 for a Gmc Sierra (not a race, or show truck)?
I have a 89 GMC Sierra with a small block 400 engine the engine is free from a cousin who's a mechanic. I plan to buy a edelbrock 650 carb, edelbrock intake, dynomax blackjack headers and 2 flowmaster super 44 mufflers. Is this a pretty good set up for a daily driving truck. I dont want too much speed i just want descent power and sound.
A: I own a shop, and a small block 400. First of all, the 650 cfm carburetor will be quite a bit small for the engine. The carburetor that came on them was at least a 750 cfm. Rochester Quadra-jet. The other components you are installing should make it run very good. The size of the headers should be at least 1-5/8" tubes to get the best flow. Many headers are only 1-1/2" tubes, so pay attention to this. If you use too small of tubes, it will hold back on the engine, and you won't get the best of gas milege. What I did was installed some smaller jets in the front (primary) of the carburetor, and went the same amount larger on the (secondary) rear jets. Mine does really well on fuel, as long as I stay out of the four barrel, but the good thing is; The power is there if I want it. Beware, the 400 is a hot running engine, and the radiator you have in your truck will not be large enough to cool this engine. You are going to need at least a 3 row radiator, and run a 180 degree thermostat in the winter, and a 160 in the summer months. The 400 is not a top end power engine, and won't take winding it up over 4,000 rpm's for very long. It makes all of its power down low in the rpm range because it is a torque monster. From 2,000-4,000 rpm's this engine is all muscle, and will out run most anything on the road. You might want to consider running at least a 3" exhaust system on it for better performance & fuel economy. As for the sound, you are right on with the set-up you have picked out. I'm not saying to not run the 650 carburetor, but I am saying the 650 will starve the engine for air. The CFM means cubic feet per minute, an pertains to the amount of air the carburetor flows. The established CFM when paired up with a set of jets that works well with this air flow amount will produce optimum performance & fuel economy.
Glad to help out, Good Luck!!!

Q: How to tighten the screws in a 1990 GMC K1500 Sierra Steering Column?
I have a 1990 GMC K1500 Sierra and I need directions how to tighten the 4 screws in the steering column.
A: You have to partially dismantle the upper column. The wheel, turn signal plate, switches and steering lock have to come off, then the upper housing is removed using a slide hammer to get the pins out, then you can see the screws that are loose. I remove them one at a time and put Loctite on them before I put them back in.
This is really a difficult job for a novice. See if you can find a diagram of the tilt column in a Chilton's at your library.
